Re: influencing your vote?

There are many fine words and ideas mentioned in the many posts concerning this subject, however i am of the the opinion that today's youths are living in a bubble thats trapped in a Jerry Springer moment, they are being nurtured and raised by todays decadent television culture, and in many cases it's even compatible with their parents agenda.
I for one would like to see the draft reinstated,i believe that there is no place better equipped than the military to instill character and discipline and at the same time they'll be doing a service to their country.

P.S Furloughs only for the certified mentally ill and handicapped persons.

Re: influencing your vote?

The guy who gets my vote will be the guy who can get me back to paying a buck a gallon for gas :D ...I miss those days, and it was only a few years ago.....

Seriously, education is vital. As for eliminating athletics, I don't think that is a good idea. Granted, sports may not seem important, but in my mind, anything that can get the kids away from the X-box and actually getting their hearts pumping is a good thing. Kids are lazy, all they want to do is play video games and watch MTV. If there are positve athletic programs that enforce a high standard of education to participate in, it is a good thing. Bad grades equal no sports. In the end, it is still up to the parents though. No amount of money being poured into the education system can make up for lazy parenting, so it is hard to know what the right answer is.

National security is a good thing, but it needs to be at the intelligence level. No amount of tanks or bombs can make up for poor intelligence. We have satellites that can read the words on a nickel, why are we always in the dark about certain things?

Foreign policy. We either need to help everybody, or help nobody. We seem to be helping those who have the most oil, probably doesn't make us look all that good to the rest of the world. Also, we need to save ourselves before we can save the world. In my mind, as long as our country is riddled with homeless and drug addicts and criminals, we need to clean house before going to some other country and trying to clean their house.

It is true that as the only world superpower we have the responsibility to try to make the world a safe place by dealing with the lowlifes of the world. We need to deal with our own problems as well, and that isn't happening right now. Who knows....I just want cheap gas. Gulf of Mexico looks good, lets get drillin'....

Im not saying that we should get rid of sports in school, what Im saying is before we lose any education programs, sports need to go first. Ilove that my kid gets to be on the football team but its by far more importiant that he learns to read........ :)

Jason if you want cheap oil, vote for the guy who is not owned by big oil.
Foreign aid is a double investment. You don't just send money. You buy influence. There usually is no money being sent, instead goods like cars or tools that are made in the USA are shipped to the foreign aid receiver. So you provide work at home and get influence abroad.
Money and education are connected. The public school that my kids go to,is one of the top ten in the country.People are willing to pay much higher school taxes and the price of real estate in our school district is a lot higher that in the next school district that does not do as good.
97.4% of the kids in our high school continue to college and most of them do have some college credit they earned in special courses in highschool. Our sports teams are lousy, mostly because there is little interest.Good salaries attract good teachers. When you pay a teacher a lot you can also expect a lot.The principal of our high school is in front of the school by 6.45 am greeting the kids,he knows most them by name and this is not a small school. So we voted to get and keep these things.
However voting and then expect things to take care of themselves is not the way to go. No matter who wins an election, the succes of their agenda is dependent on involvement of the voters in the execution of the plans and the voters willingness to put their money where their mouth is.

I was joking about the oil, gas will never be cheap again, and I accept that. In the not too far future all the oil will be gone anyway and we'll either be kickin it Quaker style with the horse drawn carriage or new technology will prevail. I'll just drive less when the prices go up. Thankfully I can bring the company truck home now, so my rig will barely be used at all....

Jason,

Once Iraq gets back on line and Venezuela straightens out, price will plummet. OPEC is cutting production in anticipation of the glut that is coming. Watch and see.

As for alternate energies and sources, we have options today but society will not allow us to use them. For example, why are we still burning oil to produce electricity? We should have many more Nuclear power plants. We should be drilling in Anwar. You know here in MA, the beautiful people on Nantucket will not even allow a wind farm in the ocean - I talking about the liberal celebs like Andy Rooney, etc. because it will spoil their view. How's that for hypocrisy?
