Info help needed regarding Engine swap

Does anyone know if I replace my 5.7 mercruiser with same size pcm engine will it be compatible with the Alpha1 gen 1 outdrive currently in boat? The replacement pcm engine is also a vortex and the merc Coming out isn’t, does this matter?

What do you have.... Specifically year and serial number

What year is this vortec headed PCM motor?

both engines came grom GM

you will need to strip the PCM engine back down to a long block GM motor and build up to a Mercruiser

The PCM intake is a better design than the Mercruiser (its a marine Edelbrock variation by Barr foundry). However you may not be able to use it with the mercruiser linkages

Don't know the max hp rating of the Alpha I. Early Alpha I Gen 2 were rated at 250 hp, upgraded to 300 hp after '97 (?) with larger inner shafts and uni joints. Point being you may be pushing the capability of your Alpha Gen 1 with a Vortec V8.
