info needed on 59' 18hp Evinrude Fastwin

Can anyone provide me with some info on this motor, model no. is 15028. what plugs to use and is the oil mix 24:1, can I lean this out if I run synthetic or no. Any other info on this motor would be greatly appreciated.<br /><br />Thanks alot,<br /><br />Sean

Plugs are champion J4C gapped at .030" (.75mm). Yes, the mix is 24:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 rated outboard oil. I belive that the 18hp did not get it's wrist pin bearings changed from plain to roller until '61, so I would stick to 24:1. The extra oil is needed in volume for those bearings so the quality of the oil isn't really much of an issue. That is to say, just using a superior oil doesn't let you switch from 24:1 to something lighter.<br />Many have gotten away with running those at 50:1, but if it were mine I would not. There's no real compelling reason other than smoke, and synthetics can help with that (at the regular mix ratio).
