Hello, new here but familiar with forums. I did a search and also viewed some 60 pages of threads/posts. Here's what I have, a 270 drive that was mated (factory) to a Chrysler slant six engine. Everything is out of the boat at this time for new transom wood but what I need to know is the model to use when searching for drive parts, I'm going to need the water tube/steering pivot with related bearings and a few other sundry parts but have no idea which "engine" to choose, the original motor is long gone but I have a replacement slant six on hand but was also considering switching to a 4.3 Chevy V6. Thanks for any and all help with this endeavor of mine

Volvo penta 270. Are you sure it's a Chrysler slant six and not the volvo six?

Yes, I'm pretty sure, the engine and drive came out of a 72-73 Chrysler Commando boat. The hull itself was junk but the engine ran good for a little while. It dropped a valve on my third trip out after installing in my Seabird boat, replaced with a good slant six from a car I "inherited".

I looked through the info posted and couldn't find a slant in marine form and I may have been mistaken on the Commando model but this engine and drive did come out of a Chrysler Boat

Ok, bottom line is I just need to know where to find/obtain the needed parts for the 270 drive. My thinking as I said before was to swap to a 4.3 V6 engine, perhaps raid one of the boat "grave yards" up near Lanier for what I need engine wise

If you know you have a 270 drive and are looking for general parts then you could use a known engine model that used the 270 to help locate a parts guide.. Say for example an popular 1982 AQ-125-A 4 cylinder engine used the 270 drive. Within this link you'll see "270" parts listed, http://www.volvopentastore.com/Tran...on_id.279333227--store_id.366--view_id.784578

In the Intermediate Housing: Drive 270 section is the water Hose Connection fitting # 28.

By chance is there a plate somewhere on the stern drive with numbers on it such as a serial, gear ratio or product number, How to identify your engine or drive

if your looking to swap the motors, why not go for a complete 290 DP and V8? it will bolt into the large transom hole, plenty available on rotten hulls and you get the better drive (duo prop, power tilt and trim)

I know it's been a while since I posted, the Holidaze and all that :D I took a look at the data plate on my drive and all it has is the serial number and patent number. Scott Danforth, I don't want to go with another complete setup here as I'm retired and on a fixed income plus the V8s can be rather thirsty. I believe I'm going to change course slightly, just in the last week or so I found out by talking to a good friend of mine that she's planning on selling her mid 80's (?) Bayliner (for next to nothing) which has a complete AQ125 270 drive. The weather over the years hasn't been kind to it's interior but all I'm interested in is the engine and drive and use mine as spare parts. I don't think there will be a power issue going from a heavy six to a 4 cylinder, with the six she popped right up on plane no problem (the whale tail might have helped a little) but if it did end up lacking I could still get a V6 and swap over later. My boat won't be used to set any speed records or skiing, just cruising the lake and for fishing :fish2: (just being out on the water would work ;)) Thanks for all the input offered here, as I work on the boat rebuilding the transom, deck, and such I'll post pictures of the progress (I know :nono: no pics then it didn't happen :photo:)

OH as a side note just thought about (thinking into the future) I don't know what Volvos had the GM V6's but likely the bell housing would be different, if anyone knows the engines better than me, a list please and would they fit the 270. Again Thank You while I surf some more looking
