Info on 1987 2.5 HP Evinrude

Just got a used evinrude 2.5hp.<br /><br />What is the oil mix ratio on this? Could it be 100-1? That seems low.<br /><br />Thanks (may have more questions!)

tdfayram....mix is 50:1. Use a TCW-3 oil made for outboards. What else is on yer mind?<br /><br />OBJ

Thanks!<br /><br />There are a few knobs and dials on this thing, I have a sterndrive, so outboards are a little new to be (although I did have a Johnson 9.9 for many years).<br /><br />The knob on the left fron looks like perhaps the Fuel on/off? There is an icon showing a fuel pump, to the top shows the pump, to the right, shows the pump crossed out. This know also pulls out (choke?).<br /><br />On the top by the pull starter is another pull/push bar. not sure what that is. there is also a turn dial, not sure what it is (on top).<br /><br />Then there is a trun knob on the front/right. This must be the throttle.<br /><br />I can get some pictures too.<br /><br />Thanks

Mornin ram....OK...the knob at the fuel pumps is the fuel shut off. Also in the same area is the manual primer. This takes the place of a choke plate. Just pull out and push back in a couple times before starting. Also there is a lean/rich adj. knob for low speed adj. The throttle lever is just above the pull start handle. Should be marked for start, shift, etc. If ya got anymore questions, please post.

Oh, yea, one more question.<br /><br />on the top at the throttle, is another knob/dial that you turn with your thumb.<br /><br />What is that? It is right behind the throttle.<br /><br />Thanks

ram...believe that's just a retainer knob for the intregal fuel tank.

Hi, I too have this engine (evirude 2.5 hp)thanks to http://www.marinemechanic.com/omc/omc_ob80-98.htm <br />found out it is a 1987. I just got it 2nd hand, and tonight got it running in a bin of water. Now this may seem like a stupid question, but should I be using leaded (now lead replacement) petrol. As here in UK round in 80's evrything was leaded. Also if anyone has any info could I have it, as have no manuel that comes with this engine (BE3RCUA). I havn't unscrewed the top yet. Hi intrepidandy <br /><br />Best to start your own topic and post your questions. You will get more answers that way. As to your question, change the lower unit lube and you might want to replace the spark plugs. Unleaded fuel will be fine(Not sure what you have there). Lead is not nessesary for 2-stroke outboard Motors. Make sure you are using a 50:1 Mix in the tank. Approx. 2.5 ounces(US)TCW-3 oil to 1 Gal.(US)Gas. Has it been in use recently or was it sitting around for some time? Manual can be ordered at the bottom left of this page(Good Idea).
