Looking at buying a 1995 Tracker/Nitro NITRO 170 DC was wanting to know if That is a good motor. And is it to small for the boat? And any idea on how fast it might runout? Thanks for any info.
nitroman,

I haven't heard anything bad about the 125. I believe this engine is the type that runs on 2-cyl. until it reaches about 1800 rpm. then the other two kick in. I may be wrong about that. That running characteristic is about the only thing I've heard.

I would expect that engine to push that rig close to 50.
nitroman,

It looks good.

Take a flashlight with you and climb all over it. Open every compartment you can. Check the decks and floors for soft spots.

If you can get a "sea trial" great. If not, at least get compression readings on all four cyls. They should be within 10% of each other.
Thanks for the info. Kind of scared of buying another used boat. But dont have the money for a new one. I had a Cajun 168 fish/ski and the hull craked about 4ft on both sides where it sits on the outside runners. They told me it was from years of the inside getting wet. And running it in rough water. I dont know. Just dont want another boat that will do that. Thinking maybe a 95 will be built alittle better. Could be wrong.
If you do get this boat, and don't like the 2+2 (Running on 2 until 1800rpm) There is an easy fix. Buy 2 top carbs for that motor and replace the bottom carbs with top carbs. The only difference between the top and bottom carbs is the top carbs have idle jets.

Craig
