where can I find more info on doing this conversion? doing some web searching also, found a few pics. looks like a need some sort of coupler, 25mm to about 1/2 inch. and I figure an adapter plate out of 1/4" aluminum ideally, steel if I have to. opinions, thoughts, ideas welcome

update, on my eska project. I got the carb running fine, motor starts on 3 pulls, put the motor on the boat in the water, and it wants to start. take the motor off the boat, back on the saw horse, and it will start. the problem is it doesn't have enuf compression to run in water. I never tested the compression with a gauge. I just turned it over with my thumb over the hole, and it seemed adequate at the time, blew my thumb off the hole. today I did that and not much pressure. oh well, live and learn.

so I figure I can mount a new lawn mower engine way cheaper than buying an outboard. in this week's paper a guy was selling 2 small hp Mercury outboards, one a '68 and the other a '69, $400 each for 42 yo motors. and another was $950 for '95 Johnson 9.9. I just say ouch, I'm cheap I know but a grand for a 15 yr old motor??? not me.

I could fix the Tecumseh..... it's got a fickle carb, and probably needs a ring job. I just thought for $140 I could get a new engine.... be done looking for 40 yr old parts and such.

pretty neat videos. lots of interest, lots questioned how they mate the motor shaft to the lower unit, not many answers. I also have a 1947 10 hp Mercury that is toast. I might look at the lower unit on it. it is much heavier. and I have a JD 2 cycle snow blower out in the shed that is like new but seldom used. I prefer my 1980 Toro with paddles than the heavy JD snow thrower. BUT it's Sunday, it's hot and getting hotter, and I'm pretty lazy. lol

Here in central NY I bought a 55 full gearshift 5hp Bucaneer for $100.Very close cousin the E/J 5.5.
Just about every part you could need is available many new and lots used.
Spent about $60 for coils impeller and spare prop. Will plane a Jon with 2 150 pounders. Rugged, reasonably quiet, and smooth and very saleable here at $250 to $350 running good.I would reccomend 56 up for the carb shared with J/E

Before you embark on a difficult project how 'bout pouring part of a bottle of Seafoam into the cylinders to soak the rings loose if they are just stuck? It's worked for me numerous times.
If it works run Seafoam in your fuel at 2 oz. per gallon for a while then one oz. per gallon to keep it from building up carbon.

And for goodness sake use a compression gauge to get an accurate reading! The 5.2 CID & 6 CID engines should have 90 PSI in new condition. The 7.5 CID should have 100 PSI. Don't have the specs for the 8.17 CID model but 100 seems reasonable there too. All should run satisfactorily down to @ 65-70 PSI but might be a little hard to start and not idle well at some point while still running fine at higher RPM.
