I am restoring a 1986 TX17 bass tracker and am looking for a motor. I am kinda on a budget so I am more than likely going to end up with something older but I am thinking it will be better anyway because the older stuff is simpler to work on. I have a guy that has this motor for sale he says I can test before I buy. Its a 65 Evinrude. Can yall tell me roughly what year it was made and if it would be a worth while purchse? I realize it has not tilt and trim but I would add that later down the road with a CMC plate. He is asking 800 which I think it pretty high. Any thoughts and suggestions welcome, Thanks Aaron

I think your right I can do a lot better, my budget is self induced I really want to see how cheaply I can put this boat together. Can I get some opinions on what yall think is a good balance in HP vs fuel savings on a bass tracker like mine. It's rated for 80...

Re: Information on this Evinrude

the 65 3-cylinder was only built in 1972 and '73. The '72 has an electric-hydraulic shift system and uses the yellow plug connector for the boat wiring harness, and has the unreliable battery-points CD ignition system. The '73 has the magneto powered ignition that was a lot better and a mechanical shift gearcase with hydraulic assist. It has a red plug for the main connector.

ideally, id be looking for something around 70hp, still on a boat that can be taken for a good run. (id even offer to pay for the fuel!)
