1983 Glastron SSV 151 Mecury 50hp. I have no tach. I can get about 31 mph WOT on certain trim settings (all manual)..Here is my question?
On my prop I can only see 15 A stamped on there anywhere? My question to you guys is "Upgradeable?" Better preformance? Next thing is if you look at the picture attached, what is the big tabs that were added to my motor near the prop? Are they called "trim tabs" and what exactly to they do preformance wise if anything? Would I be better just taking them off?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn here. Thanks in advance.

Re: Information on this prop?

The plate is apparently home made and of questionable value since the nuts hanging below it are going to create turbulence and drag, and maybe even affect prop efficiency. These plates are typically added to help with hole shot and to control porpoising which is the tendency for the bow to bounce up and down at speed. My suggestion is to get rid of it. Nauticus Smart Tabs are inexpensive and a heck of a lot more desireable and effective at controlling boat attitude. As for the prop, the 15A is probably a 15 inch pitch. You are also missing the trim tab which is the bolt hanging down from above and slightly behing the prop. This is to control torque steer. Get it back on. If you just acquired the boat, someone probably took it off to make room for the current prop. Without a tach making prop changes cannot be properly estimated as to whats needed. If the engine is running at nearly its maximum recommended RPM you have the proper prop. If its overreving you need to increase pitch. If it cant reach its maximum recommended RPM you need to decrease pitch.

Re: Information on this prop?

Ok, So I took off the plates and the boat took seemingly forever to get up to speed and almost felt a bit slower.
Put them back on and in the corse of the day one came off so I now I am back to none.

Short of the 150 buck Nauticus Smart Tabs (which I would like to get).. Any other suggestions..

PS With the 'plates' on there this lil boat would do 31mph.
