That motor has the wiring for the System Check alarm set. When the ign switch is first set to "on", you will get a warning light check and a beep from the System Check Tach, to show it is working.

Is that what you hear and see?

Well it is likely either a short in one of the alarm wires, or a sensor really thinks there is a problem.

Give the oil primer bulb a squeeze and see if that fixes it. if so, check if the OMS pump looses prime. Id not, you need to test all the alarms. With the motor off, ign switch in the on position, disconnect the OMS pump harness. If still has an alarm, disconnect each of the cylinder head sensors, and then the oil tank harness, followed by the vacuum sensor near the OMS Pump. If the alarm shuts off, you have a lead on how to troubleshoot. I would also recommend a OMC Service Manual, which has a wiring diaghram.

does any one of the lights on the tach stay lit?? just a guess maybe it could lead you to what circuit the alarm is being trigger by.

I have had an alarm for off on my motor-control combo for the last three years( well since I got them both) the alarm goes off exactly 2 minutes after I turn the key on....no matter what...and it turns off after exactly 10 seconds....happens 100% of the time....dont know what it is...stopped trying to figure it out.

Re: ingnition alarm beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Could be a bad tach or the horn itself. OMC had probs with them back in those days.

whats the model number of your outboard ? high fuel vacuum or vacuum switch possibly., disconnect your fuel line to the motor and see if it disappears, or bad temp sensor ?

that motor has a fuel pressure alarm......but I doubt it would sound before the motor is even started!

I am betting a bad alarm or a shorted wire...

While the horn is beeeeeeeeeeping, remove the TAN wire from the warning horn. If the beeeeeeeeeeping continues on with that wire removed, the horn is faulty.

If the beeeeeeeeping suddenly stops, a problem exists with one of the sensors, in which case, disconnect the sensors one at a time until the beeeeeping stops to find which one.

so if i remember right...you are basically saying CUT the wire....right?

the horn is wired direct , no connectors to pull off.....right?

Re: ingnition alarm beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Bob..... No, what I said was to disconnect, not to cut.

All of the warning horns I'm familiar with have two slide on connector terminals. This allows the wire to slide on, slide off. Even the built in black ground wire is connected to ground via a screw terminal. I'm not aware of any horn that is wired directly.

Not enough information. If your system is OEM System Check tach, without wiring harness adapters. The tach is bad. Can`t understand why you don`t answer the questions ask. I have the OEM manual in front of me with the answers.
