Initial hookup of battery/wiring???

I'm trying to start this boat that I just bought, and am not getting any spark, but I don't know if I've missed hooking something up. It's a 83 merc with remote control. I've run the two battery cables and that's it. Is there any other wiring that I should hook up to the battery?

If not, then I'll start doing some more electrical trouble shooting.

\Thanks

does the remote have the emergency kill switch? if it does and it's not in place it will never fire. yes, just the 2 cables to the battery.

No there is no kill switch, just an on/off toggle and a key hole.

I guess I'll have to troubleshoot the electrical.

The toggle says 'run' and 'off'. The choke is on the key switch, and I can tell that it is working. I'm assuming now that I have to find something else, but I have to find a manual first.

Where do the wires from the toggle go to? Motor? Bilge? Light?
And getting a manual is a good idea.

The toggle switch is on the control itself, so I don't know where the wires lead to without taking the control apart. I could do this, but I really thought this was a simple on/off. I tried it in both on and off positions.
