1996 volvo penta 5.0gipbycce. Looking at replacing one or possibly both injectors. I can't find a part number. I'm getting conflicting information as to what the lb/he rating is supposed to be. I thought there were 90s in there but that doesn't seem to make much sense since the high pressure pump only puts out 30 psi. Someone told me that it was 10 percent of the horsepower. That would be about 45-50 lb/he per injector. I would like to replace with what is in there. So how do i find out what is in there or origional? Thanks in advance.

Are you currently having issue? Or are you just wanting to replace as part of a maintenance schedule?

Pull the injectors and take them too your local Autozone or O'reilly's. I know my 1996 VP 5.0FL (Ford Based) was akin to the same MY F150/Bronco. Given that you have a GM based 5.0, I'd start there?

I'm sure there's someone on here that can tell you the exact part #?

Most 5.0/5.7L marine engines use the same 65lb/hr @ 30psi cop car injectors with the PCM adjusting to engine specifications. The injectors have a 2 numbers stamped on top. Would you have those numbers? Also which color are the injector connector studs? (should be either orange or red).

When selecting injectors make sure the lb/hr listed is at 30psi and not at 15psi. Both injectors should be replaced with a matching flow rate pair. Careful of websites listing the Standard Motor TJ11 90lb/hr (red) as the correct injectors for your application. They are probably not.

You'll find several places online that offer ultrasonic cleaning and flow match test for an affordable price.I would consider going that route prior replacing my injectors. They rarely fail but often clog.

25170301acr is one number. The other is 9237gm. Did a Google search and it would appear that I am not the only one searching for the flow rate. I have yet to find the answer. I really appreciate the responses. Hopefully I can find out!

While you are at it you probably want to inspect the regulator spring and diaphragm. If they can't hold the pressure the fuel is returned to the cell and may explain your injector problem. Note that the spring is specifically calibrated for 30psi. The diaphragm is the same for both, 15 and 30 psi.If you replace the diaphragm I suggest the acdelco kit which includes longer screws to make re-assembly easier. Compressing the spring could become challenging.

Found this on another forum. Definitely require more research but yours may use the standard motor TJ11 after all. Still not clear if the TJ11 is 90lb/hr @ 15 or 30 psi.

" Its a marine application high pressure version of the 61 lb/hr injectors. Used on 400+ HP marine big blocks.

25170301----Yellow/Black---61 pph @ 13 psi / 454/502 Marine *NOTE: Came with 30 PSI regulator used @ 26-32psi for ~100 lb/hr @ 30 psi

The only way to make 100% sure of what the injector will flow at a given pressure is to have them flowed.

The connector studs are orange. Thanks for the info.
I found on another forum also that someone tested one with the same numbers stamped on it and got 1050cc/minute which converts to 99 lbs/hr. So I'm guessing the 90 is the correct one?

I could never find out if the TJ11 was 90.77lb/hr @15 or 30 PSI. Tried them on my 5.7gxi and they delivered too much fuel. They were listed as the correct injectors for my application. My injector number is different than yours 17084327ACR. The TJ11 has red studs while the TJ17 has orange ones. The TJ17 is rated at 60lb/hr @ 15 psi and I believe they deliver ~90lb/hr @ 30 psi. Never tried them as I got my original cleaned and put them back on.

Very hard to tell which is the right ones as there is not much documentation available.

I think we'really getting closer. Thanks for your help... i found this on the internet...

Tj11 injector delivers 85lbs @......13 psi
2. tj17 injector deliver's 55 lbs @.... 13psi

Your mefi system is delivering.... 30lbs of pressure.... not 13lbs..... below is a decent read and a flow calc. The injector tj11 was flooding the engine badly

"The tj17 can be used as a 4.3 injector @ 13 lbs or a 454 injector at 30lbs thats been the whole confusion Gm did this in 94."

Good work the tj17 is the right injector and most mefi systems run at 30psi and last most marine injectors come or originated from the 94 454 it was a emission thing.

Great. Thanks for all the help. Why would you consider these a rare find though? Tj17 are all over ebay. Or were you referring to the entire tbi?

Finding the/a/working/rebuilt entire TBI from a "Volvo" engine just seems rare to me but I never really looked in the past either.
