Hi guys!

Pulled the motor off the boat last week-end inorder to build up the transom by 1 inch.

As I lay the engine on it's back (Spark plugs down) a small rubber insert fell out of the cowling. It's about 1/2in. in diameter and steps down to about 1/4in. Has a very small hole through it and a slight indent on the 1/2in. side. I believe this to be a bleed restrictor? The symptoms matched those of an engine with some/all missing bleed restrictors.

I read that they go under the inlet port covers, but I just want to confirm exactly where that is, and what has to be removed to get there.

Looking at the engine from the rear, is it the big cover on the left hand side behind the throttle lever? Do I have to pull the power head to get to it? Or can I drop the bottom cowl and get in there with a ratchet and socket? Should I be expecting any other loose parts? If I have to pull the powerhead, what's involved? What do I take off and what can I leave? Anything I should take note off as I'm removing it? What can I check while it's off?

Thanks in advance! :)

It's not a bleed restrictor you found. And the cover you're refering to is on the exhaust (wrong) side.

-W

Thanx Clams!

What did I find? Is it important? Any idea where is goes?

So the inlet port covers are on the fuel pump side? They have little heat fins on them?

Sounds like a motor mount. That is the first thing that I thought. Need Pic like Clams said..Tim
P.S. It a little small for a mount I think. It can be hard to play the guessing game.
A pic will tell real quick.

That sure looks like a rubber shock absorber for the cowling cover (or something similar).

Yannno, It might bee too early in the morning, but I can't place it on 1st sight. I agree that it looks like a rubber shock damper for cowling parts.... but I can't say "Oh it's THAT one"

Any takers?

-W

That is what my guess was a motor mount shock absorber Etc, But I think it is to small for that.
I have seen lots of things fall out of a outboards no telling what you may find in one. Tim

Thanks guys!

Atleast it's not a working part then :)

My guess would be some part from a neighboring yamaha or something.

As long as it's not from my engine I'm happy :)

Thanx again for the inputs :)
