I'm going to look at a used motor in a couple of days, and this is one of the pictures the seller sent me: https://i.imgur.com/3nfjcL5.jpg

This used motor and my current motor are EXACTLY the same, identical model number and year: Mercury 1075726 (75 HP) made in 1986.

My motor (that I bought used 12 years ago) does NOT have that inline fuel filter. So, did someone ADD the filter to this used one, or at some point REMOVE the filter from the motor I have now?

I imagine most outboards come OEM with a fuel filters.

I removed mine out of redundancy. There is a 10um separator/filter just four feet upstream

The inline filter above the switch-box has been added, the filter Built-in the motor is just a screen good enough to protect the fuel-pump but not good enough to prevent partials from plugging up the carbs.

Those little filters are a good addition to have and cheap!!

Be careful the screw in the center of the cap (where the screen is under) Is usually seized! & will break, so if you don't need to clean the screen; leave it alone

Thanks. Yes, I've done the fuel pump service several times and am always careful about that little cone-shaped screen. If I buy this used motor I think I'll remove that added-on fuel filter. I like to have one on the line closer to the gas tank.

NOOO, put a new one back, you'll be happy that you did!
For $5 you'll have piece of mind that your Carburetors won't plug up/run lean/ blow a piston

ALSO.......putting the filter in front of the pump puts a strain on the pump they push harder/better than they suck
