I had to take my 9.9 Chrysler in to have the carb cleaned (again). A piece of cotton from a cottonwood tree was the culprit this time.

Seems there is no filter at all between the tank and the carb.

With this small of a motor is it possible to add an inline filter? If not what alternatives do I have?

Thanks for the help!!

Re: Inline Gas Filter Needed?

Hi, Im not an expert but this is a easy fix.

Any filter you install is better than none at all, the only problem you may have is fuel flow restriction with some of the larger filters out there which are normally installed on bigger motors.
I would not make a project out of this and just go to any marine supply and buy a inline filter that has a clear bowl, they are small, only about $10.00 and easy to install anywhere on the fuel line.
Most of these type filters are located under the hood of the outboard but in your case you could put it anywhere, just get the right size hose connectors and a couple of hose clamps and your done.

I dont know if your motor has a tank on the outboard itself?
If this is your problem, and there is no where to fit one in you may want to consider a remote fuel tank for the boat and connect direct to the supply deleting the existing tank, or get a better funnel with a screen on it.
