Jezz, spent a good 6 hours on this today!. Heres the skinny with pix.
Don't know what was original, but coming off the top carb, with 5/16ths line, you need the brass fittings from...

Click on Brass Fittings
Click 'Pipe".
Ya need a 45 degree Street Elbow (1/8NPT) PN 28-230.
Then go back and click to "Barb".
Need PN 32-008 (also 1/8NPT). Thats a 5/16ths Barb end.
There IS a PN 32-111 that does not need anything (comes barbed), but thats a 3/8ths hose...they only sell 1/4 and 3/8ths...no 5/16ths. Possible to adapt the 3/8ths hose, but I would NOT mess with anything in different hose supply I.D'S to the carbs.
These parts will have ya back in shape after new 5/16ths hose. The stuff mentioned will have the hose coming out at about a straight angle just behind the starter. I will post pix in a second.
But before I do, I CANNOT take credit (except for the P/N's on this), and I want to thank my Merc Guru, ..."T", which is a good friend of Ed M here on the Forums ( both within miles of me here in here in Western Washington and other side of the Sound from you Jim) for all the knowledge they so selflessly give. Those 2 guys could write book on the old "Tower of Power', and retire rich. The cooling probs fixed, the Trigger's for 78 up with the offset #3 set. But they are super wrench "clinkers", and love to be surrounded by the "old girls", and "bench racing" in the shop is theirs, and mine specialty.
I am in debt to them and all for what comes and goes around here (plus Scott (Chinewalker) and "FR" on the JohhnyRude Forums..(you too Tash Daddy). And of course Don. S (I/O forums)..who is moving down my way to O/S. from AK. To tell ya the truth, I go there for the "Sun and Surf' Harley Rally in August, I'm gonna find out where he lives, get his address, and I think we ALL should him a "check for $20"...help him out on the retirement thing ((thanks Don..). Jeezz JB, SBN, ..(hell ya know who ya are..)
Years of education cannot compare to a simple question from someone in trouble, and we get them "wet' again with a smile.
Do a good "deed" everyday, and what goes around, comes around..you people here are the greatest...nuff said....pix to follow...
