inner transom plate question

To start, Alpha 1 Gen 2 (transom 0F086629 eng 0F002022). Have looked through the installation document and have found no reference as to why the mounting holes in the inner transom plate are elongated (vertically). And do you just let the plate drop and rest on the bolts coming from the transom assy, or??

The inner plate is not located by the bolt holes, it's located by the gimbal bearing housing extension. See attached picture....

They are enlongated to give you a little wiggle room when installing and for plane alignment. You want to have the rear motor mounts as close to level as possible. Of course that isn't always easy, and if the rig used to cut and drill the transom wasn't installed correctly the first time, nearly impossible.

Ayuh,... 'ell, just finding keel line/ hull Level is elusive on some barges.....

I was working on a ship at sea once when I spied a spirit level in the ships carpenter's toolbox... When I asked him why he had a spirit level he said it was so he could hang doors straight.... :cool::cool::cool:

Ayuh,... 2 of the Least used tools in boat building are a spirit Level,+ a Square...:rolleyes:
'course, a Tape Measure,+ String Lines are probably the Most Handy...;)
