Hello all. I have been reading posts on iBoats for a few years now and I appreciate your great knowledge. I have a problem for me that I am trying to solve and was wondering what experience others may have had with this dilemma
. How can I satisfy my cheapness
while at the same time getting a functional ( relative to my boating ) large screen gps for 300.00 - 400.00 instead of 700.00 - ????. Now here is my thinking on this. So far I have been able to navigate my local lake, Lake Pleasant and did a week and Lake Powell with a handheld gps and got around fine. I really love the large screen gps for marine but for the way I use my boat I can't justify the $$...So as I try to get myself a large screen marine GPS for my boat I was thinking about all the different mediums for gps and thought About the car indash aftermarket units. The screens are large they have numerous built in tools like Bluetooth as well as full audio and entertainment. Well never having a vehicle in the middle of a lake I don't know what a standard gps would look like and function on a boat. But as I thought about this I started to wonder if the gps software installed can be changed, I mean it is software right? Oh yeah and charts/maps. Well that statement either made me sound like and idiot or a genius!LOL!
Anybody have any experience with installing or Changing software on gps units?
So what are your thought or current solution.
Thanks,
