You'd think this would be easy and I understand the concept, however this little boot cost quite a bit and I don't want to rip it during the install by doing it incorrectly. I believe the throttle control is a 1999-ish OMC side mount throttle control.
I know the disc (item #48) screws into the neutral warm up rod and the inside edge of the rubber boot (item #34) is supposed to fit inside a recess on the throttle control arm (item #38).
Has anyone installed one of these? Any pointers?
Specifically, how far into the boot does the disc go? Which ridge of the boot does the disc sit inside?
I found that the first time I installed it, I must not have had the disc seated inside the correct ridge of the boot, as when I pressed the button (expecting to be able to throttle up while keeping the lower unit in neutral), too much of the rubber boot was pressing against the throttle arm, thereby causing the button to not travel enough to disengage the shift mechanism.
These darn little boots are hard to find - very few places have them and they treat them like gold....I don't want to rip mine.
Thnaks!
