Re: installation of bait tank

Hi Colin, I have a 16' boat with live tank (I run 85hp) The best solution for me was to mount the tank through the floorboard so it sat almost on the hull. The top waterlevel was 400mm above the floor of the boat. This gave me excellent control of the boat under all conditions. The tank was mounted mid line and about half way down the length. The top became a working position with a basin for washing up. We use a 300gph pump and the outflowis directed into the engine well then out the stern. Hope this helps. You don't say what your boat is made of.
Ross

Re: installation of bait tank

I put a live bait tank in my 490 stabi-craft.
I looked around for ages for a plastic tank that would fit and finally made a tank out of plywood.
It sits at the back on the stbd side held in with a tie down.
I made it just proud of the transom so the drain discharges o/board.
The pump I use is a sureflow and I mounted it underneath one of the seats, the suction runs over the transom and has a right angle irrigation hose connector that is fastened to the stbd drain hole facing forward.
I put the inlet water about halfway down the tank so the fresh water doesn't run straight out, painted the inside black and the fish seem very happy in there.
When I don't need the tank I just take it out and haven't noticed any stability problem when using it. When I'm at planing speed I don't need the pump running as there's enough pressure to push water thru the pump, I had to install a valve in the line to prevent this when not using the tank. I run the pump off a cig lighter attachment.
Theres one more addition that I have to make and thats a drain from the bottom of the tank.
Hope this is some help its not real flash but didn't cost much.
