i already have a casting deck and now gonna make a box on that to put my troller. question? does the box have to be even with the rail of boat so the troller goes up , out and down correctly or can there be a step from box to rail?

The troller mount must be flush or above any obstructions.

so if worst comes to worst and the troller deck isn't flush i'll just add a small riser to make up the diff.

So what's the deal with this "box". Why can't you mount the troller diagonally across the rail and the bow as they do on any other boat.

i have a 14' seanymph and the rail is not wide at all ,maybe 2" +. so i'm gonna add to the deck and bring it up flush.

Re: installing a bow troller

I bought an adjustable bracket that I mounted on my bow that allows me to use a transom mount trolling motor on in. The mount will fit even a narrow bow, and has a quick release to remove the setup when not needed. It adjusts forwards/back approximately 12" so it can reach out beyond the edge of the bow.

It sells for $28 at Bass Pro.

When mounting a transom mount on the bow, forward/reverse are backwards. One other mod I made was to remove the handle, reverse it, then reassemble. This allows forward/reverse to work correctly when a transom mount is mounted on the bow.

Did you read the two reviews on this item before it? Glad it worked out for you but those reviews say it's poorly made. I'm looking for one too, but they appear to sell for $70 for a quality one.

Expidia,
Where are the $70 ones listed? Both mounts (1 and 2) listed at Bass Pro seem to be shaky at best.

Love this site.

Maybe I'm not understanding what type of boat you are mounting it on.

I have a 14 foot aluminum with a casting platform on the bow. That's where I mounted mine. The $70 has poor reviews and its not metal. I was going to get the $70 one at first and then a few posters steered me to the $39 model.

They were right. The $39 one is all metal, lockable and a solid unit. I might get a chance to test it on the river today.

To be fair, several posters here recommended the $39 unit so I bought it from iBoats. They were the same price as the other sites too like Amazon.

Here is a listing of various units so you can click on them and read their user reviews.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=minn+kota+quick+release

But from the units you posted it seems to me like you are trying to mount one on a Jon boat. what is your goal for your trolling mounting and what type of boat are you using it on?

Also, here is a thread when I took some pics of how the previous owner mounted the Bow mount on the rig we just picked up:

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=320399

Last week I took it off and replaced it with the $39 Minn Kota bracket so I can remove it when we are off the boat or lock it on when it's in a parking lot.
