Hi, i just got a new boat (and my first one at that), a few weeks ago and i want to put a fishfinder on it. I got the fishfinder now but i have no idea how to install it lol. Do i just wire it to the fuse box under my dash or do i have to wire it directly to the battery? The boat is a Crestliner 1650 Superhawk and the fishfinder is a Garmin 300c. Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

You follow the directions in the manual. 12 volts and ground is 12 volts and ground wherever you find it. But the closest to the display will very likely be the fuse panel so why run wires all the way back to the battery. The transducer must be mounted away from the motor, strakes, trim tabs and on the right (starboard) side of the boat.

The old salt at my marina once told me that fish-finders work best when connected directly to the battery. But, alas, I hooked mine up to a piggy-back connector under the console. Every once in a while clean the scum and barnacles off your transducer to make sure signals come and go cleanly.
