My compass sprung a leak and I need to replace it. I have been looking at it to determine how it is held down. It is a Plastimo Helmsman compass.

Are the hold down screws installed from the top, or do I need to pull down the headliner to get at the screws from the botteom? I don't want to cause more damage by not knowing where to start to remove the old one and install the new one.

Do other brands such as Ritchie have the sam mounting arrangements so that I could use another brand if I can't locate the Plastimo or does each manufacturer use their own mounting arrangements?

Re: Installing a Flush Mounting Compass

It could be self taping OR screws with nuts

There are about 500 different shape compass made  i have to replace two 27 year old Ritchie ones this winter and even there current replacement is going to require a LOT of work as they have different mounting holes

So if you can buy the same one it is much better ;)
