I have an 87 black max 175 and was wondering if it would be a good idea to install a fuel/water separator? I have a marpac fuel/water separator that I never installed on my old boat. It is the screw on type with stainless steel mount. Also I premix oil 50:1 into the tank? On the filter there is 4 ports for hoses? what is the proper way to install the lines on the filter? any help is much appreciated.

On the top of the mounting bracket there should be arrows to show you the direction of fuel flow. You'll need to block off one inlet and one discharge hole. Find the correct size fitting and either use gas resistant gunk or the pink ( I think that's the color ) gas resistant teflon tape.
Now make certain that the holes you block are staggered so the fuel will go through the filter and not just slide across the top.
A good 100 micron filter ( keep a spare ) and you're good to go. :D

standard pipe plugs is what would be used. most likely size is going to be 1/4 NPT. you will also need hose barbs that are threaded on one side in that size to connect the hoses to the filter adapter. You can get these at any hardware store. I would suggest that you take the adapter with you to ensure getting the correct sized threaded plugs and fittings.

Why even bother with a filter? :D

You want a 10 micron filter, not 100 micron ;)
