Has anyone installed a ski pylon?

I just purchased my first boat & am finding that the tow points on the rear are causing my rope to drag in the water.

The boat is a 16ft '84 Forester, fiberglass hull, 90hp Johnson.

I've seen a couple of ski pylons for sale around the web, but have no idea how one would be installed. Is this the kind of thing I'd be better off leaving to a pro? I remember asking at the dealer if they could install one & they said that it wasn't the type of thing they do. Do I just need to find a different dealer?

Thanks!

-Adam

Re: Installing a Ski Pylon?

Here's a thread from another forum that discussed this. Pylon Thread. I've got snap-in carpet so I've not yet figured out how I'll handle that part. I'm thinking I'll cut a hole for the base and have an upholstry shop seam the edge.

BL...

Re: Installing a Ski Pylon?

Thanks! That helps a bit... I think I could probably install one of those myself. Would a 7 foot tall pylon cause problems with slalom skiing? I'm thinking it might even be too tall! it looks like it might be posible to modify it or even get a shorter top piece for skiing & keep the long 7 foot extension for after I get a wakeboard!

I just might have to order one :)

-Adam
