installing a tach

My boat has not had a working tach since the other motor was put on. A good freind on here told me that i need a 20pole tach now. Question i have is do i need other cables to hook up new tach? or can i use my old wires that i had from my old tach?

You can use the same wires as long as the tach wire at the motor goes all the way through the wiring harness to the tach itself.
