I just bought a boat with a 1976 85 hp johnson on it. however it does not have a trim tilt on it.It has the cylinders to keep it from dropping to fast but that is all. My question is does johnson make a trim tilt for this engine? I am sure I have seen it on this size of motor before. and how hord would it be to put one in? any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

At shop2.evinrude.com they show a tilt/trim unit for that engine. Just guessing, but since the engine is already designed for one it seems like it would go right on without much problem.

Try CMC.com. They also make a unit and it may be cheaper than the orginal.

Would any johnson tilt trim motor and assemby work or does it need to be for the 85hp specifically?

Read post # 2 and check that out. You'll see what you need.
