Coming after an overheated engine experience , I wonder how can i install alarm with buzzer and dashboard light .
I have normal gauges now .
Engine is VP 5.7 GSplkd ' 97.

Also I am thinking to add alarm to show when bilge pump works and maybe a smoke/steam alarm , if I get smoke or steam in the engine compartment .

Any ideas or link are greatly appreciated .

if you get smoke and steam in the engine compartment, the motor has long since suffered from a catastrophic failure.

you can add a temp switch, oil pressure switch and run them to a buzzer or a light. however you have dash gauges, as you are boating, your eyes should scan the gauges every 5-10 seconds. at least that is what I was taught years ago when being taught how to drive.

if you would have been watching your gauges, you would have noticed the temp gauge rising.

Being a GS you should already have the warning horn/buzzer. It is connected on the Tan/Black wire which is on Pin 4 on the engine connector. When you turn the key ON do you hear anything?

Some folks get tired of hearing the buzzer and disconnect it. Its not very bug and is usually under the helm but can also be on the motor

If people disconnect warning horns/buzzers, they have no one to blame but themselves when then engine pooches. However they should hook it up when they sell. or at least have the decency to tell a purchaser it is unhooked.

Not sure on yours, but on my 01 VP 5.7GSI it is for low oil pressure, and water temp. And it does buzz/ sound on intial start to test if working.

If you want a bilge water alarm just tie in to the float switch circuit and a pilot light on the instrument panel.
The oil/overheat alarms that I have installed have one buzzer with a light for both, real simple.

I have tried to see the wiring for the alarm and i have found no buzzer . I have found one wire hooked up nowhere which is tan and blue . no power/ground to it when contact is on or off . tracing this wire i found two wire which has caps at the ends .
i think one was supposed to go the the oil alarm and one to the water alarm ..

My question would be this do this wires goes and hook up to the water temp sensor and oil pressure sensor or should be other water switch and oil switch somewhere on the engine ?

from other searches i found the buzzer get power from ignition purple wire and close the circuit through either water switch or oil pressure switch to the ground but i didn't see any diodes or anything to separate these 2 wires, and if i hook them up they would mess the reading of one with the other .

You are correct, one side of the alarm comes from the purple wire at the helm. The tan/blue goes to the alarms directly for non-EFI and to the ECM for EFI. You can use the Tan/Blue and disconnect the others. If I was to do it, and leaning toward it if testing does not fix the issue, I would connect direct for lube oil and temp. The oil pressure no so worried about

There are no diodes

So please can you clarify this for me .
The way i see it what i have now is one water temperature sender which has a variable resistance with the temperature and and oil pressure sender , which also has a variable resistance with oil pressure .
Can i use any of this for the alarm OR in fact i need oil pressure switch and water temp switch ?
If i hook up the buzzer to the sender I am afraid the buzzer will have a variable sound ( due to variable resistance of the senders )

If in fact i need switches like described above where would be the locations for them . should my engine have provisions for this covered now by some plugs?

Thank you

You cannot use the sender's for the alarm, they must be switches. The temp switch is on the thermostat housing and has 2 wires coming out of it. The oil temp is normally short and below the distributor on the block

I have checked on my thermostat housing there are no switches, no plugs .
so for the same thermostat housing 3850360 i found online various photos some shows plugs some don't have.
so i will have to replace the housing to be able to install a water temp switch .

About the oil switch , same story none installed . So i will use a T with 1/8NPT to connect both the oil switch and the oil sender .
can you point me to a diagram where I could find the parts I need for oil pressure sender and oil switch .
Thank you

update .
So i ended up buying a Sierra kit of 2 switches and the buzzer - item nr MP41400.
will install in the future one more sensor on the exhaust pipe .
Fell much better to be able to stop the engine quickly in the event of a problem.
