Getting my 1992-95 Johnson 2 cyl 30/35 hp ex navy seal powerhead back together and all was going well, got to putting the Boyeson reeds on the reed plate and am having a fit. The instructions are vague to say the least. It say's "remove the tape from the back of the petals..I did and now have 4 pieces of "top" reed and 4 pieces of "bottom" reed that go together like a jigsaw puzzle...they come apart with a breath when trying to get them on the plate and indexed. I am afraid to to use them because they seem like they will suck ritht down the motor. Any advise on these? Thanks....Lee

I just put them on my Johnson 200. The directions told me to leave the tape on,it serves as a shim. Yours may be different. But it is worth reading over the directions to be sure. Haven't got to fire mine up yet, waiting on a post about jetting. Holp this helps and GOOD LUCK

You should have 4 pieces that are larger and a hole in them and 4 pieces that are smaller that cover the hole in the first reed. The only other pieces you should have are the reed blocks, rev strip and screws.

When we install them we surface each side as well as the gasket side -- just to make sure they're flat.

It can be a bit awkward to assemble everything the first time. I have 2 longer screws with the heads cut off that I screw into the reed block first. Kind of like a stud. Then drop the large reed on, then the second, then the strip and then start a couple of screws. Remove the studs and start the rest of the screws. I use a tiny bit of Loctight on each screw. Snug all the screws and then tighten.

Be sure that you dont use the stock reed stops. It'll be fine.

These are the ones that look like daiseys..round with petals. The instructions said to remove the tape..I wonder if it meant remove the tape from the hole in the center? These are the #128 reeds for 25-30hp Johnson 2 cylinder 1 carburetor. There is a "bottom reed" that has 8 openings that I guess line up with the holes in the reed plate..then there is a "top reed" that has 4 solid petals that covers the holes in the "bottom reed". These are a cream color and I see the ones on their website look black. Clear as mud?..like their directions with hand drawn pictures and typing that looks like it was run off a copy machine a 100 times. Thanks for the answers though.

Forgot to mention, there are two sets and I have only unpackaged one set for one side of the intake plate.

Ah! My mistake Harker! I dont know why but I was thinking you had a 40 hp. You clearly stated what you have -- I misread I guess.

Sorry about that! What you have is entirely different than what I was talking about. Pay no attention to my irrevelent ramblings but I do (now) understand what you have and they are kinda hard to get in place correctly.

Dhadley, I figgered you thought that. Dinked with it at noon and I think I have it figured out. Re-read the instruction 3 more times and it DOES say to remove tape in step one. These things better work...can't imagine how they can charge 80 bucks for some slivers of plastic and sleep at night. I wouldn't have them at all except I traded a fellow a decoy for them.
