Installing CH1700 Side Mount Control

Hey guys, I've got a 1996 Mariah with a 5.7 & Bravo Three. Customer brought me the side shift unit he wanted installed along with the previous one already removed. I can't seem to get the cables to set properly in the nest and subsequently, when I attempt to shift, they bind. The owner told me that he had the shift & throttle cables replaced a few years back, I'm wondering if it's possible that they're the wrong cables in the boat? Both the shift & throttle cables are UFLEX: C36 F114 241.

Any Ideas?
