I have a 96 20' Proline and would like to install chocks. I have backer plates (2"x4") stainless. The plates are 1/4" thick, I believe the the deck material to be around a 1/4". My plan is to locate chocks slightly to the rear of the cleat on each side. I plan to tape the location starting with a small drill bit and increasing the bit size to avoid splintering. Any suggestion or tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Installing Chocks

I take it that these chocks are for dock lines? i think your plan is OK, but overkill. You can drill 1/8 pilot holes and follow with a 1/4 drill. I would think 1/4 screws would be plenty strong. You could use a 2x4 wood block as a backer plate, as well. Heck you could use a set of wood screws into the wood backer plate. Drive 'em after drilling the 1/8 pilot holes.

if the chocks are to be used for the anchor line, you might like to bolt 'em and use the backer wood or SS.
