Has anyone installed docking lights on their boat?
I am looking at installing these

Any ideas on this? Supposedly you need to cut holes in the hull? What kind of protrusion is inside the boat then? How does it look...

Any thoughts would be great!

Thanks

tallman

Hey Kelvin, Have you thought about the remote gimbaled spotlight type of docking light ????
I see these, as the lights with all the Plusses, with few Minuses......

Who Ever Heard of Headlights on a Boat ????

Headlights on a boat... LOL...
Yeah I hear ya... I have a handheld that works great except when my hand gets tired... I do a lot of river running and I figure these would look pretty neat as well as functional, I just dont have a lot of room on the deck or a good place to mount a deck spotlight. not to mention I hope to increase the resale value...

tallman

The Only lights I've seen like those, Had a plastic "Cup", That bolted on with the light(like in your pic.)..... They intruded in on the cabin, about 5, or 6".....

Yeah thats what I figured.. I am redoing the cabin so I may be able to make it look semi Pretty inside there, I just am worried about cutting out the holes for mounting the lights.

Tallman

I have got a pair of small spotties...
and the mechanism for power mirrors for a car..

I have set it up on the work bench so that I can control the spotties using the joystick control from the mirrors.. works great and the two lights can be facing in different directions if you like..

Now just have to mount them on the boat in a way that looks pretty.

Just a thought... I am lazy.. so the less I have to do when out boating,, the better.

rgds

Franki

Just remember that running with these docking lights on may get you a citation. Only lights allowed are the front running lights and the rear white light.
You can use spotlights but only to identify buoys and then turn them off. You could blind someone coming in the other direction.
