installing driveshaft on johnson 30 '89

my manual states thet in order to insert the driveshaft in the lower unit the lower unit needds to be taken apart in order to align the splines!!! is this true?

I accidently removed the driveshaft while replacing my impeller

please help

M manual states that if the driveshaft was removed from the pinion gear the lower unit must be disasembled in order to align the shaft and the pinion gear... i dont want to take the lower unit apart... is there any other way...
