hello all, i am trying to install a kill switch for a friend. i have this switch http://www.iboats.com/Seadog-Univer...06041662--session_id.222401750--view_id.39677 i understand that i have to use the magneto terminals, but not quite sure how to wire it. i am trying to wire into the key switch. there are 6 wires in the key switch, one is a yellow/red. pretty sure this is a neutral safety. red - hot wire. it has a solid purple, a purple/white, black/yellow, and a black/white. from what i understand is to use the black/yellow and a ground. my questions are which of these would be the ground, and do i just splice into the wires? any help would be appreciated.

To be accurate it would be nice to know what motor you are working on.

Re: Installing kill switch

If you look at the back of the ignition switch you will typically see a letter code next to each termnal. If the switch has two "M" (magneto) terminals simply wire the switch across them or tap into each of the wires. The switch shorts the magneto to ground so do not insert the switch in SERIES with either of the wires as this won't work.

Re: Installing kill switch

Using an ohm meter, the two terminals that kill the magneto would show continuity with the key off. You need to have nothing connected to the switch when making those tests. Key ON you should see continuity between the +12 volt and accessory terminal. In sart you should see continuity between +12 volts and the start solenoid terminal. Push the key in y0u see continuity between the +12 volt and choke/solenoid terminal.
