Hi guys.

This is another thing iv been wanting to do. Haven't found any information online that pertains to this motor.

I bought a boat with an '87 Evinrude 40hp, E40ELCUD.

It came with an additional lower jet unit. All red, has the same mounting platform to bolt right onto the lower portion, and a long shaft with splines on the end.

Im very new to all this so please bare with me.

Does anyone have info on how to properly install this? Maybe some excerpts from a manual? This is an OEM piece, came with the motor when originally purchased. I have a little booklet about it, but no install information.

Any pointers in the right direction would be fantastic.

Im new to the site. If photos would help, let me know and ill attempt posting some. Thanks!

No Title

Heres some photos of identical pieces. Not in front of my boat. Have tried YouTube. Only relevant video doesn't include install info, and i cant seem to download or open the PDF files from outboard jets website. Just curious about the linkage to the coupling. Does it Have to be extended to reach down there? Also is it more in depth then just bolting the lower unit on? Can an average joe handle it? Again, the jet drive unit came with the motor. Its all OEM. Only difference i can tell from the one pictured is the color.

Ok, was able to track down a bit of info.

Looks like its a pretty lengthy installation. Talks about a lot of hardware, shims, bolts, washers, having to drill out some stuff, etc... And apparently you have to raise the motor so the pump sits just under the water.

Not sure if i up for all that . Also mentioned something about adjusting shift linkage and cabling. I got A general idea now. At this point, im looking for anybody who has done this swap to chime in.

Is all the hardware sold separately or do i use the stuff from the prop lower unit? Do i need to buy a new shift cable assembly?

And also most importantly. Is it all something worth doing if you may go back and forth between setups. Or is it more of A permanent, semi permanent swap?

Water wont be super shallow all year and in every location and having the option would be nice. More or less looking for some feedback on what i may be getting myself into here.

Thanks, gents
