installing lower unit 1992 evinrude 200 xp

When installing the lower unit should the shift rod be engaged or disengaged. when i pull it up it engages the propeller im just wondering if theres a certain way to make it easier to get the linkage bolt in . also do the controls need to be in nuetral foward or reverse the book said to put in reverse to disengage to get lower unit off but doesnt specify about installation any help would be appreciated before i begin the work

Fact----Shift position DOES NOT MATTER on your motor.-------Did you research and set the shift rod height ?-----If shift rod height is correct then you simply move the lever till you can put the screw / pin in

ok thanks i did not make any adjustments on the shift rod height so should be the same as when i took it off ?
