Installing Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Transom Mount Transducer

I'm getting ready to install a new Lowrance Elite-5 color locator w a transom mount on a 1992 Champion boat. Does any know of a good way to select the best location for the transducer? I really don't want to have to move the transducer to different locations and drill multiple holes in the transom if I can avoid it.

make sure its on the keel line about 2 ft away from the motor. The prop wash is usually the problem. Make sure you put a torpedo level on the bracket. The transducer needs to be level too. But you cant tell how level it is until its in the water. Read the book it tells you what to do. Make sure the transducer hangs slightly below the keel line. Other words the transducer is right below the bottom of the boat. good luck
