installing rear mounts on a merc 470

how do i go about doin this? I know i will have to raise the motor. that is problem #1. i have no accessible frame on my house, nor do i have any trees other than palms. can i use an engine hoise IN the boat with flat boards under the wheels of the hoist to spread the load? do the motor mounts just slide out of the rear of the motor or are they pressed? if pressed, will a big c-clamp work or does the whole rear mount assembly have to come off??

boat is a 1987 wellcraft 190 classic merc 470/alpha 1

Just why do you think there bad?
They are pressed out and in. C clamp will work.But it`s a heck of alot easier with the motor out.

they are bad because there is damn near no rubber left. i can physically move the engine around.

I pulled my 470 out with an engine hoist in the boat. Pull the motor and take the bellhousing off and press them in on a bench

so you actaully had the hoist on the floor of the boat? I was originally thinking about this and having some wood under the wheels of the hoist to spread the load. My only concern is where to rest the engine once removed from the floor. Its a heavy piece and I have some other work to do once removed. Would it be safe to have more wood under the engine to rest on the floor of the boat, or is that to much weight in one area for the floor to hold?

that is pretty trick. nice. however, i have a very large c-clamp that could work, if not, i have a shop press in my shop that is readily available to me. I also can use my lift to raise the engine out of the boat. I wanted to avoid bringing the boat and trailer to work and occupying a bay, but its not a big deal to the boss, so I think im covered as far as pulling the engine out.
