I am installing my new BOSS marine sterio. it has 4 wires +12 volts constant, +12 volts switched, ground and one that says remote which looks like don't go anything with, its presealed with rubber

Why are there 2 12V wires? Do I run them both to the battery or only one?

Thanks

does the "switched" wire goto the ignition or the battery? do I have to run the constant? because Idc about memory. I plan on only using my ipod with it. as it has no CD player.

The constant is for memory like someone else said, and the switched usually goes to the ignition so it won't turn on without the key. The boat I just bought had both of them going to the battery. Probably the smart way to do it so you don't have to leave the key turned on. Just remember to turn the radio off or disconnect the battery.
The blue remote would be used for a power antennae, or more commonly with a separate amp. The amp needs a separate signal to turn on, and the remote provides this power only when the radio is on, hence not draining the battery for no reason.

Power wires for accessories do not get wired to ignition switches. They go to the fuse oanel.

You can just turn the radio OFF. Even with the face plate removed, the memory is still being powered.
The drain is so low, just like in all your cars, it will take a few months to drain the battery.
I should not become an issue unless you keep the battery in the boat over the winter.

If you have the switched 12V powered on all the time, your battery will die faster than a few months.

Well, it will if you do not turn the Radio OFF!

The Stereo in my boat is powered directly from the Fuse block and is Hot as long as the battery is attached.
When the Radio is OFF it is just as OFF as if you pulled the fuse.

The other "Memory" lead is still powered and draws a few mA.
Removing the face plate is equivalent to turning it OFF.

The stereo in my boat has a lit display even if the radio is off. That is why you need a way to cut power to it if you don't disconnect the battery. Many radios are this way so you can see it to turn it on when its dark.

So, just because your radio works that way, doesn't mean all radios do.
