You don't understand how this works. 1) the sender is not long enough to reach through the water cover and head to actually get to where the threads are. 2) The threads on the sender are pipe threads and threads for the head bolt are straight thread. 3) No! You cannot eliminate a head bolt. If it was ok to do so the factory would have only put in 15. 4) The sender you are looking at needs to be installed either as a water temp sender or a cylinder head temp sender. If there is an unused port that opens into the water jacket, then screw the sender into that port and it measures water temp. If not, you need a "Z" bracket onto which the sender is mounted. The "Z" bracket then bolts under one of the cylinder head bolts such that the sender contacts the cylinder head near the spark plug on the hottest cylinder which is generally the uppermost cylinder on each bank (V-engines). Either way works.

wilde has a really nice chart! I use the "Z" bracket on my crossflows. Works fine. If you check the heads, you may see a what looks to be a small, round, flat area close to a head bolt. Sand the paint off and butt the tip of the sender to that surface, then bolt the Z bracket to the nearest head bolt.

"Z" brackets - I got new FARIA gauges. Faria does not make "Z" brackets or I would

not be here.

I have TWO of these.

They come flat. When I try to bend them the sender pops out. I think the brackets need to be longer so I was going to try and make my own bracket and then pop the sender in place and hit it with some Locktite RED. I was also going to try for that little flat spot on the head cover as you mentioned.

I was thinking why go through all that when I could maybe install one of the other senders in place of a HEAD COVER bolt. No not a HEAD BOLT. Silvertip did bring up a good point regarding the length of the sender and contact not being made which for some reason I hadn't thought about. The 16 bolts per side minus 1 was what originally started this question also with the hope somebody here had tried this before.

I wound up making my own bracket. Make sure you bend it so that the flat tip of the sender lies perfectly flat on the head-for maximum surface contact.

I think you're saying that you went through the same thing and had to make your own brackets. What did you use to make the bracket ? It has to be somewhat thin yet firm and adverse to corrosion. Aluminum ? Zinc ?

A thin length of aluminum would be ideal, but it is very possible that it will break/crack when you try to bend it at 90 degrees. I used a pc of thin steel.

Yeah I don't have to "Z" it so aluminum should work as long as I can find a piece as THIN as this.

These are what I have but the bracket needs to be a 1/4 - 3/8" longer for bending and contacting that spot on cover.
