I found a wiring diagram that shows my panel lights wired to my anc/nav switch. should I wire them to that switch or should i put the panel lights on there own switch? If wired to the nav/anc switch do i double up on the nav side of the switch? My switch has 6 posts. Thanks for the help

Your panel lights should be connected to the NAV side of the switch -- not the ANC side. There is no sense having the panel lights on when at anchor. On the NAV side they will only be on when underway. Some boats have them wired so anytime the igntion switch is on the instrument lights are on. Sort of a waste during daylight hours but it is done that way. Most however are wired to the NAV light side of the switch.
