My Oil furnace and oil fired hot water heater connect and go out the one insulated chimney.

I'm thinking not, ... but could a propane fireplace vent out the same chimney? or is two the limit...

could an interface be made so the HWH doesn't come on while the f/p is on? I'm thinking a thermo-switch in the f/p pipe... don't suppose any of that would be to code though...

I'm not sure about the oil furnace but with wood you are not supposed to vent gas into the same chimney. Of course that is with brick chimneys.

It would probably depend on which appliance vents highest on the chimney, and how big the chimney is.

The heat should not be a problem, and I would think there should be enough draft to pull the smoke and fumes out.

Other than building and fire codes there should not be a problem.

I would call the propane company you do business with, someone should know.
