Thanks to reading posts on this board, I realized I did not have liability insurance on my small fishing boat (Don't know why I didn't think of it before). I called my agent and found that while towing, my car insurance covered it. For coverage on the water, they wrote a document that extends my home owners insurance over the boat at no extra cost as long as the motor is under 50HP. I did not get Comprehensive since this is the ugliest Jon boat in history with a 45 year old motor. (But it's mine all mine and gets me to where I want to fish without sinking, starts second pull every time and the wife actually found it in the newspaper and said I should buy it (Add look of shock, grin of Did she lose her mind?, and nervous look of am I stepping into an ambush?)

Congratulations! I also want to applaud you for thinking of insurance. There are too many lawyers out there waiting for any kind of incident to clean your financial clock to go uninsured.

When we bought our boat I called our insurance agent (where we have auto and homeowners insurance). All I wanted was liability but he was able to write a policy for liability and hull insurance for about $12 per month. The boat is a 15ft runabout, 40hp.<br />Bill

My 1985 Bayliner/125 Force was insured to a replacment of $7500. (yeah, really!) and was $175 per year with state farm. The new boat went up to $300/yr.

15' alum fishing boat w/15hp- no charge for liability when towed (vehicle ins), or in water (home owners ins). But newer 16' w/ 70hp cost $2 per hundred of value. $120 per year for $6000 boat
