I have an older BW Nauset that I prefer to keep an older engin on, I presently have a 1984 Evinrude 75 Hp that over the years I have purchased extra parts such as a a starter , tilt and trim wiring harnesses so I could always maintain this motor. Well the motor had other ideas and blew a hole thru a piston, so I recently bought a 1988 Johnson 70 hp. I always thought that the parts from the early 80's Evinrude/Johnson motors were interchangable between years close to my 1984 such as starter, carbs and most and most parts. Now I have found out that the block and major parts such as splines are slightly different on the new motor from the 1984 year , but wondered if someone could tell me if parts like the carb, starter , tilt and trim and bottom end are interchangable between 1984 and 1988

Re: Interchangability of parts

For specific part numbers, just check the BRP or Crowley website and cross reference their part numbers. The starters are interchangable, along with most items in the lu I would imagine. I dont believe the carbs would work, but check the part numbers as stated.

The 1984:
