I know flyingscott I was pointing out the size of it and no outboard has the drivetrain like this one.The possible fuel savings for offshore fishermen could be tremendous .A possible 42 percent savings is a lot .I could be wrong but Yanmar never made a motor as big as this one.Of course cost could play a huge factor too ,but long term might even out and lifespan of the motor should be pretty long in theory.

Unfortunately that outboard is 750 pounds (340KG). A new design of outboard boat would need to be invented to carry that much weight on the transom for only 200 HP.

Seven Marine tried the belt thing....... it didtn work behind a diesel or spark ignighted engine

On the right boat and the right applications it looks like it could be a great idea!....maybe a heavy fishing boat or a work boat/barge?....

Scott just because seven failed doesn't mean the idea is invalid atall.Chris just because its 200 hp I don't believe is so terrible.Look at the torque numbers, pretty healthy. One thing ive found is finding torque numbers for gas motors is harder so its harder to compare.Maybe the 200 is equivalent to a much higher hp gas outboard in the the amount of weight it can move efficiently? It would be interesting to follow this company and see how it turns out.Ibelive they have an agreement with some Asian companies where diesel is much more accepted than here in north America. Its not uncommon to see smaller diesel outboards in the Asian market atall vs pretty well non existent here.

Actually the verados are not the lightest motors on the planet they push all of 700# wouldn't be the biggest jump.
My biggest issue is the belt system maybe it would work maybe not. The motor does put out significantly less torque than the 7 so maybe it will hold up.My guess is to put a standard lower on it to handle the power of the motor was a significant weight gain. That motor is also significantly more complicated than a verado and how much will it cost to fix.

A vanilla 4 cylinder Verado has 200 HP and weighs 510 pounds. A vanilla 6 cylinder Verado has 350HP and weighs 668 pounds. So you get 175% more HP for less weight with the Verado.

I have seen boats with 3 Verado motors. That could be as much as 1050 HP. Three Diesel OBs would be close (but more) in weight but only 600HP.

HP is not everything.Theres a reason why in certain apps diesel is king. With large amounts of torque at low rpms you can move objects at lower hp vs gas.Maybe instead of 1000 hp on the back of the big heavy boat all you would need to get decent performance would be 2 200 hp diesel o.b.,s. and use less fuel and last longer between replacement or rebuild .On the back of a bass boat or maybe a go fast type the diesel would be wasted but I can see the advantages on the back of a large heavy canyon runner.

Take all those nasy motors off the seas and roads and your life is going to be completely different .I can see where Chris 1956 is coming from but your comment totally baffles me .
