Has anyone used a goose neck set up, to mount their radio head unit inside the console? It would require some bracketing, to keep the mechanical pressure on the head end's frame. It would also require careful wiring & tie wrapping. With all the movement, this could get messy.
I have a large access door (in the cockpit area), into the console (about knee height) where the front of the head end would peer out (so to speak).
It's an 18' CC. Between the vertical rod holders, the fire extingusher, grab rails, GPS/VHF and seat cushion (back), up front, there is virtually no real estate left to mount my head unit.
My thoughts were several:
1) I am using a remote control up to the dashboard, so I don't require constant access to the buttons.
2) The goose neck could offer isolation from the bumpy ride of the boat.
3) I can still move the head unit out of the way, to get access to all the other assorted farkles I keep in the console.
4) The head unit will stay dry(er) inside the console
Just want to get other's thoughts on this.
