The paint will have a coverage specification on it per gallon. Take some rudimentary measurements of the hull. Water line to keel, in several places, and make an estimate for the sq footage. Pretend the boat bottom is a triangle on top of a rectangle - it will be close enough. You will want to put on two coats, over a primer.

BTW - I do not think you will get two coats out of 1 gal. You can also get some generic ablative A-F paint, likely made by Interlux, for less $$.

I always ask around locally where I will be boating, as different paints work better in a particular area or water..I also don't think you will get 2 coats out of a gallon,,

Re: Interlux Micron 66

Pbuzz, I have used both WestMarine and BoatUS-brand paint. They are made by either Pettit or Interlux, but sell for about 80% of the name brand product. Here in NJ I get the ablative paint with the most copper content, that is in the low price range. In warmer waters, you need more copper and maybe a slime controller. Pick an ablative paint and two coats will last 2-3 seasons. Use a primer (Pettit Sandless Primer is good). Unpainted boat bottoms have wax on them. if you paint over this wax w/o primer, chunks of bottom paint will fall off.

I always thought it was the best but now I see others that appear to be the same quality for about 75-95 bucks so I guess I'll go that route. Thanks

Where did you find it for that price? The cheapest I found was 171.00. from wholesale marine.
