have an 88 omc 4.3 with cobra leg. intermittently dies, but restarts almost immediately. appears to be worse when warmer out. here is what i've done;
points, condenser, cap, rotor, coil & wires. dwell is 38deg, point gap .020. checked voltage at back of alt 14.2 v at terminal to coil. max 10v at coil after resistor wire. in case resistor wire was faulty, ran 14 gauge wire from alt to pos side of coil with a ballast resistor wired in still 10v max after resistor and still stalls intermittently. overlayed ignition 1&2 wires from switch back to harness at engine. bypassed ignition switch as well, still stalling intermittently. new positive and neg battery cables, ensured all grounds secure and clean. still stalls. Any ideas?

Fuel system checked, Carb is rebuilt, can see fuel down carb even when stalling. Multimeter across coil shows 0 volts when stalling. problem is intermittent and restarts right away, so is very difficult to test as tests good when running. Today removed tach wire from negative side of coil incase tach wire was grounding out, however still stalls. when it stalls, it's like someone turns off the key.

With 0 volts across coil, check voltage from + side of coil to ground. If that is missing, then you have a loose connection feeding the power to the coil. Working backwards from the coil, you have the big round connector, an 8-pin harness connector, another 8 pin connector near the helm, the MOB safety switch, the ignition switch, a power connection, then you head back to the motor thru the two 8-pin connectors to the big round connector to the big circuit breaker to the connection at the starter. From the starter back to the battery.

If you have a good 12 volts, check the ground signal back thru the points to the engine block to the ground connection at the block for the battery cable to the battery
