I have a '74 model 110, 9.8 hp that lost spark out of the blue. After tinkering a little ( disconnected the kill wire, checked continuity, swapped plugs, inspected wires, tighted loose connections) it began to fire.

However when I get it to the lake---nothing. This has happened twice. On the first occassion it cranked, I did some hunting but it wouldn't start when time to come home(lots of paddling).

When it fires both cylinders fire and when it doesn't neither cylinder fires. I'm not convinced that my tinkering has helped anything but rather that the problem is intermittent.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Allen

aupshaw,

I'm nor Merc. expert.

However, I would be checking every wire connection I could find. REMOVE them and clean thoroughly.

Your kill switch sounds suspect to me. Bypass it, for testing ONLY, and see what happens.

Thats not something always easy to find. If its not an igniton component with a problem, then it just about has to be wiring. Check every single wire for good condition (no breaks even within decent looking insulation), and also every ground connection. I would almost be willing to bet there is a corroded ground somewhere not making good contact, maybe kill switch as well.
