Intermittent starting

I have an '06 Chaparral SSI 190 w/carbed 4.3 GL Volvo. I noticed the oil pressure gauge go to max and the volt meter stay at zero when turning key on with beeper warning sounding. Advancing key to start engine there is no cranking at all. After several try's I would get the same thing engine hot or cold. Advancing the key again when both gauges go to about center with beeper sounding and the engine starts fine. Thus my intermittent problem. Is it an internal oil pressure gauge problem? I have checked the connections more than once. Faria 4 in I gauge. Hope to be able to recreate both instances and test o/p gauge. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
